WILDLIFE KNOWS NO BORDERS

The world’s remaining wild animal populations face an invisible threat: political boundaries cutting across ancient migration routes and ecosystems. This fragmentation crisis affects:

• Elephants in Africa blocked from seasonal migrations across 38 country borders • Big cats losing connectivity between protected areas in 27 countries • Ungulate herds unable to access traditional grazing lands across borders • Marine species facing inconsistent protections in territorial waters • Migratory birds encountering different hunting regulations along flyways

As habitat fragments, genetic diversity declines, climate adaptation becomes harder, and extinction risk rises dramatically.

THE GLOBAL WILDLIFE CORRIDOR FRAMEWORK

Our campaign advocates for a pioneering approach with five focal ecosystems:

🌍 GREATER SERENGETI-MARA ECOSYSTEM Kenya & Tanzania • Securing migration routes for 1.5 million wildebeest • Harmonizing park management approaches • Creating buffer zones around protected areas • Coordinating anti-poaching efforts • Ensuring community benefits across borders

🌏 KANCHENJUNGA LANDSCAPE India, Nepal, Bhutan & China • Protecting habitat for endangered red pandas and snow leopards • Establishing consistent forest corridor protection • Coordinating high-altitude ecosystem management • Addressing human-wildlife conflict cooperatively • Preserving traditional ecological knowledge

🌎 JAGUAR CORRIDOR INITIATIVE Mexico to Argentina • Connecting 90 distinct jaguar populations across 18 countries • Creating consistent protection status for corridor zones • Developing shared monitoring methodologies • Harmonizing compensation schemes for livestock losses • Integrating indigenous stewardship approaches

🌊 CORAL TRIANGLE MARINE CORRIDORS Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands & Timor-Leste • Establishing marine protected area networks for reef connectivity • Coordinating management of spawning aggregation sites • Developing shared enforcement mechanisms for no-take zones • Harmonizing sustainable fishing practices in buffer areas • Creating consistent monitoring protocols

🌲 CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS ECOSYSTEM Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic & Austria • Securing passage for Europe’s largest remaining brown bear population • Coordinating forest management practices across borders • Standardizing wildlife crossing infrastructure on transportation routes • Harmonizing hunting regulations in buffer zones • Developing shared tourism approaches benefiting local communities

OUR APPROACH: WILDLIFE DIPLOMACY

For each priority corridor, our campaign will: • Convene conservation agencies from neighboring countries • Engage local communities on both sides of borders • Develop standardized monitoring and management protocols • Support development of legal protection frameworks • Create sustainable financing mechanisms for corridor maintenance
