  • Makes meaningful comparison between providers nearly impossible

  • Results in consumers paying an average of $28/month more than expected

  • Creates frustration when actual speeds don’t match advertised claims

  • Confuses consumers with technical terms without context

  • Allows providers to advertise theoretical maximum speeds rarely achieved

Our proposed “Broadband Nutrition Label” legislation would require standardized disclosure of:

  • Actual price, including all mandatory fees and charges

  • Service reliability metrics, including typical outage frequency

  • Contract terms, including early termination fees

The format would mirror nutrition labels on food products, providing consistent presentation across providers that enables true comparison shopping. Enforcement through the FCC would ensure accuracy in reported metrics, while regular testing would validate performance claims. This common-sense transparency measure would improve competition, reduce consumer frustration, and create market incentives for providers to deliver better service at fair prices.
