Real Lives Are Being Lost
- Porsha Ngumezi, a young mother, bled to death after being denied a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure.
- She left behind two young sons and a devastated family.
- Suffered 6+ hours of severe bleeding
- Had clear medical need but received delayed, inadequate care
- Death was “entirely preventable” according to medical experts
The Current Crisis
- Doctors avoiding standard D&C procedures because of the grey area around current laws
- Patients being transferred between hospitals seeking care
- Medical staff fear criminal prosecution
- Even legal exceptions not protecting patients
- Hospital ethics committees causing critical delays
What We Are Asking From Policy Makers
- Support HR 12 – Womens Health Protection Act of 2023 which would:
- Clarify medical emergency exceptions
- Remove criminal penalties for emergency care
- Create clear hospital protocols
- Protect standard medical procedures
- Enable rapid emergency response
And most importantly, “prohibit governmental restrictions on the provisions of, and access to, abortion services.”
